Your eggs have come from Mad Yolk Farm, Co. Monaghan (1IER165 – Madyolk Farm). Mad Yolk Farm was setup and run by PJ & Eilish Markey, along with their 3 young children Fionn, Maisie and Aodhaigh. PJ has been involved in his family’s mushroom and beef farm since he was small. PJ, a fully qualified electrician, worked for Kevin Moynagh Electrical installing wiring in poultry units in the Monaghan and Cavan area for 5 years before joining IDS in 2006 as a Poultry and Pig Service Technician. PJ completed his Teagasc Green Cert in Ballyhaise in 2007 and went onto complete the Teagasc Free Range Production course in 2008. PJ remained with IDS until his first free range hen house was fully constructed in February 2012. In 2014 PJ decided to construct his second free range hen house in Latton, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan. This second house is slightly different as it uses natural ventilation compared to his first house where ventilation is powered by extractor fans. Both of PJ’s houses are equipped with LED lighting and more recently PJ added solar panels to the roofs of the hen houses to become more self-sufficient and sustainable.

Both houses are approved by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and are certified with Bord Bia under the Sustainable Egg Assurance Scheme.
